Shirley is full of inter-war and later family houses with long back gardens, and those gardens have often held the same conifers and hedge trees since the day they were planted. If a tree at the bottom of yours has grown huge, we can fell it safely and leave the garden clear and workable.
We begin with a look at the tree and the route in. Then we tell you how we would take it down, what we would do with the timber and whether the council needs to be told. You decide once you have the full picture, and there is no rush.

A long Shirley garden sounds like plenty of room, but a tree at the far end can be a real challenge, because everything has to be carried back up past the house. We plan for that, dismantling the tree in sections and moving the timber down a clear route that suits the lawn, borders and any paving along the way. We agree that route with you first.
Some trees at the back of a plot stand close to a rear fence and over a neighbouring garden. Those need extra care, with ropes holding each piece, so nothing swings into the next plot. We talk to you before the work about what overhangs, and we suggest you warn the neighbours so they are not surprised by the noise. The same applies to overhead cables.

The conifers common in Shirley gardens were often planted as privacy screens and have since shot upwards. They darken the lawn, drop needles into everything and soak up moisture from the ground. Taking a few out can transform a garden, giving back light and making the border soil easier to use again. Light returns to the lawn almost at once. Shade lifts too.
Because conifers do not regrow from old wood, there is little point in half-measures. We fell the tree or the whole run, and remove the timber. If you would like screening again, a lower hedge, a fence or a few well-chosen shrubs can fill the gap more tidily than the old trees did, whether you live near Shirley Park or elsewhere in Shirley. Shirley gardens often have room for either.
Once the tree is down, we cut the timber into logs for you or take it away, along with the branches and green waste. Stumps can be left low or ground out by arrangement. We also cover Solihull and Monkspath, so if you are on the border of Shirley, we can arrange a visit to look at your tree.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

We take it down in sections and carry the timber back along a planned route, protecting the lawn and borders. A long garden gives us space to work, but all the wood still has to come past the house.
For a while, yes, until you replace the screen. Many people choose a lower hedge, a fence or climbers instead. We can talk through the options with you, so you are not left looking straight at the neighbours' windows.
No. They can be left cut low if you do not need the ground. Grinding out is available by arrangement when you want to lawn, plant or build over the spot, and we can advise on what suits you.
