Shirley is full of inter-war and postwar family homes with long back gardens, and those gardens have a habit of filling up with trees. Conifers shot up, an apple tree spread, and a sycamore seeded itself at the bottom. Our tree pruning in Shirley sorts out the overgrowth and puts each tree back in proportion.
We reduce and shape garden trees, fruit trees and conifers, take out dead wood, and clear everything away afterwards. Each job begins with a walk down the garden so we can see what needs doing and agree it with you.

A long garden means trees can be a long way from the house, which hides how big they have become. Walk to the far end and you often find a crown that is tall, thick and heavy over the boundary. We shorten the longest limbs, take out crowded growth and lift the lowest branches so the lawn gets light. Doing this in Shirley gardens, where the trees sit well back from the house, takes a little planning but pays off.
Because the tree is so far from the road, we plan access carefully. We climb and lower branches in sections, carry the waste up the garden and protect the lawn where we can. Reducing a tree in stages, instead of in one heavy cut, keeps it healthy and avoids the thick whippy regrowth that comes after harsh pruning. The result is a lighter, safer tree that still fills its corner of the garden.

Boundary conifers are a feature of many Shirley plots. Planted as small hedging, they can now be towering walls that darken both sides of the fence. We can reduce them, but only while there is green growth, as conifers will not sprout again from old brown wood. Cutting too far means a bare, lasting gap. It is a common story on these roads, and one that is easier to solve sooner than later.
We will look at each one and tell you how far it can safely come down, or whether replacement is the more sensible long-term answer. Neighbours often share a boundary conifer, so we suggest speaking to them first. We avoid the nesting season for the larger jobs, as thick conifers are favourite spots for birds. Talking it through first avoids any awkwardness afterwards.
Describe the problem tree or send a photo, and we will arrange to see it and talk through the cuts. We also cover Solihull, Hall Green and Monkspath, so if you are near Shirley, there is a good chance we can come soon. We keep the work tidy and the explanation plain. We will keep you posted on timing.

It depends on how much green growth there is. We can usually take a conifer down and in by a moderate amount, provided each branch keeps live foliage. Cutting into bare brown wood will not regrow, so we will not do it.
Not at all. We carry the equipment up and down the garden, lower the branches in manageable pieces and take everything away afterwards. A long garden simply means we plan the route first and protect the lawn wherever we can.
If the tree is on the boundary or overhangs their side, yes, it really helps. Most neighbours are glad to see an overgrown tree tidied up. We can prune sympathetically so both gardens benefit and the tree stays balanced.
