If a conifer has grown past the fence line or an old garden tree is leaning towards the house, tree surgery is the safe way to deal with it. J and Son Trees and Landscapes works in Kidderminster and the surrounding DY10 and DY11 streets, handling pruning, reductions, deadwood removal and full dismantling of large trees.
We come out, look at the tree and the space around it, and explain the options in plain terms. When the job is agreed we do the cutting, take away the timber and green waste, and leave your garden tidy.

Kidderminster has period terraces close to the town centre and larger estates built later, and the gardens differ a great deal. On the estates we often meet tall conifers planted as screens, which keep growing long after the owner wanted privacy rather than shade. Cutting them back properly takes judgement, because many conifers do not regrow from bare wood, and a hard cut in the wrong place can leave a brown gap that never fills in again.
Older terraced streets tend to have narrower plots, where a single large tree can dominate the whole garden and sit very close to neighbouring walls. Here we usually thin the crown and shorten the heaviest limbs, so light gets in without leaving the tree looking butchered. Where a tree has to come down, we dismantle it in pieces, working from the top so each section is lowered under control.

Before any cutting, we check for power and phone lines running through the branches, look at how close the tree is to sheds, greenhouses and fences, and decide where the cut pieces will go and which ground needs protecting. In a Kidderminster back garden with side access only, the route in and out can decide how the whole job is done, and it is far better to know that before the day than to find out halfway through.
We also check whether the tree is protected. A Tree Preservation Order or conservation area can mean you must contact the council before cutting, and doing it wrongly is a serious matter. Nesting birds matter too. If we find an active nest we stop and plan around it, since the law protects nests while they are in use, and we would sooner wait than cause harm.
When the cutting is done we chip the small branches, load up the larger timber and green waste, and sweep the lawn and paths. If you want some logs for a stove, we can leave them. We cover Kidderminster itself and also Bewdley, Hagley and Stourport-on-Severn, so you do not need to hunt for a different firm when the next garden down the road has a tree that needs attention.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

Often yes, but it depends on the growth. Leylandii and similar conifers rarely sprout from bare, brown wood, so a drastic cut can leave gaps. We look at how much green remains and tell you honestly whether to trim, reduce in stages or take the whole thing out.
Contact the local council's planning or tree officer with the address and tree location. They can tell you if there is a Tree Preservation Order or if the property sits in a conservation area. Do this before any cutting begins, and we are happy to point out which tree you mean.
We stop that part of the work. Active nests are protected, so we leave the affected branches alone and plan around them, which may mean returning later in the year. We would rather rearrange the job than harm nesting birds or put you at risk of breaking the law.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
