Oldbury gardens range from small yards behind terraces to the wider plots on inter-war streets, and a tree in any of them can cause trouble when it gets too big. J and Son Trees and Landscapes carries out tree surgery in Oldbury and across the B68 and B69 postcodes, dealing with tall, awkward or unsafe trees.
Our work covers pruning, reductions, thinning, removing dead wood and complete dismantling. We start with an honest look at what is needed, often finding that a lighter job will do, and we take the waste away when we are finished.

In much of Oldbury a single tree may fill most of a garden. A sycamore beside a terrace can darken rooms, push against a wall and shed leaves into every gutter. We often start by thinning the crown and shortening the longest branches, which brings light back and reduces the sail area that catches the wind, without turning a good tree into a stump. Cutting too hard only encourages a mass of weak, fast regrowth, so we remove only what the tree can cope with.
If the tree is too close to buildings to keep, we take it down in pieces, climbing and roping each section down. The yard may be tight, so we plan where timber will be stacked and how we get it out. It is routine work for us, but it does need thinking through first, including which side the branches will hang and whether a stack of logs would block the only way in. We would sooner spend ten minutes planning than an hour fixing a problem.

Gardens near green spaces such as Warley Woods tend to have more mature trees, and birds and bats use them for shelter and food. We check for nests before cutting and leave anything in use alone until the nesting period has finished, and we tell you plainly if that means coming back at a different time of year. If a tree is a protected one, that changes the way we approach it too.
Many Oldbury homes sit close together, so branches often hang over a neighbour's garden. We talk about the boundary, check cables and make sure nobody's shed, washing line or car sits in the drop zone. Telling the neighbours in advance is a courtesy that tends to go down well, and it keeps the whole street on side. If a neighbour wants their own tree looked at while we are there, we are happy to do that in the same visit.
After the work in Oldbury we chip or load the branches, take away the timber and green waste, and sweep up. Logs can be left if you want them. Check with the council about protection orders and conservation areas first, because either can change what you are allowed to do. We also cover Smethwick, Tividale and Rowley Regis, which makes it easy to arrange several neighbouring jobs in one visit.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

Yes. We do this regularly. We climb the tree, cut it into manageable pieces and lower them by rope, then carry the timber out by the easiest route, even if that is through the house. We plan the route with you before starting.
It can, which is why we check first. Nests that are in use are protected, so we leave those branches or postpone the work. If we see signs of nesting we will tell you and agree a sensible plan.
It helps. If branches overhang their garden or the work happens near the boundary, a quick word avoids surprises. We can also explain to them what we are doing if they ask, and we check their side for hazards.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
