A good lawn starts with what happens before the grass goes down. We offer lawn turfing, artificial grass, lawn renovation and edging, from scarifying and levelling a tired lawn to stripping the old one and starting again. The ground preparation decides the result, so that is where we put most of our attention, and the old lawn and waste are taken away.
We work from Hall Green, Birmingham, and cover Birmingham, the Black Country, Solihull and north Worcestershire. Some gardens need only a repair to bare patches and a crisp new edge, while others need a complete replacement. We will look at what you have, explain what makes sense, and leave the garden tidy when the work is done.

Natural turf suits households that like the feel and look of a real lawn. We strip the old surface, level and prepare the soil, lay the turf tightly and finish the edges. If your lawn is patchy but basically sound, renovation may be enough, using scarifying to remove thatch and moss, levelling low spots and repairing bare areas. We would look at the soil, the amount of light and how the lawn is used before recommending which route to take.
Artificial grass suits shady, muddy or heavily used lawns where real grass struggles. It goes down over a compacted, levelled base with edging and a weed membrane, so it stays flat and tidy. Neither option is right for everyone. We explain the differences honestly and help you choose what fits your garden and how you use it. It also needs proper drainage underneath, so water does not sit on the surface or soften the base after heavy rain.

We start by looking at the lawn and the ground beneath it. We check the levels, how water behaves after rain, how much shade falls across it and how the garden is used. Then we explain what we would do and why, so you know whether you need repair, replacement or a different surface altogether. This look at the ground is what stops us recommending a quick fix that would fail the first wet winter.
On the day we remove the old lawn if needed, take out stones and roots, level the ground and prepare the base or soil. Then we lay the turf or artificial grass and tidy the edges against paths, borders and fences. All the waste is cleared away, and we leave the garden neat. Drainage problems are dealt with before the new surface goes on. If the lawn borders a hedge or tree, we can trim or remove it first.

Lawns here vary a great deal. Inter-war semis with long gardens often have large lawns that suffer from shade, compaction and low spots, while Victorian terraces have small patches of grass that take heavy wear. Heavy clay soils are common across the region, and they hold water, which is why drainage and preparation matter so much. Small differences in level also show up more on a lawn than anywhere else, so we check them before laying anything.
Think about shade from mature trees and hedges, which can thin grass over time, and about slopes, where the surface needs careful grading. Consider access for turf or a digger, and how you will keep children and pets off a new lawn while it settles. If trees or hedges are the problem, we can deal with those too. Edging is worth planning too, since a clean line against paths and borders keeps the lawn looking cared for and easier to mow.

Yes. When a lawn is past repair, we strip it, take away the turf, weeds and waste, and prepare the ground properly for the new surface. Cutting corners at this stage is the usual reason new lawns fail, so we treat it as the most important part.
Common causes are compacted soil, poor drainage, heavy shade, moss and thatch build-up. We look at the garden to work out which applies. Sometimes scarifying and levelling is enough, and sometimes drainage or a new surface is the proper answer. We will also tell you honestly if the better answer is to start again rather than repair.
It is laid over a compacted, levelled base, with a weed membrane beneath and firm edging around the outside. The base is what keeps the surface flat and stops dips forming, so we spend time getting it right before the grass itself is rolled out and trimmed.
Newly laid turf needs time to knit into the soil, so keep off it until it has rooted and water it as advised. Artificial grass can be used sooner. We will tell you what to expect for your lawn when we finish the work.
