Tree surgery is the careful cutting, reduction and removal of trees that are too big, too awkward or too close to buildings for a householder to handle safely. From our base in Hall Green we work across Birmingham, the Black Country, Solihull and north Worcestershire, on everything from a leaning ash behind a Victorian terrace to a heavy oak over an inter-war garage roof.
We start by looking at the tree and the space around it, then explain in plain terms what we would do and why. Once you are happy, we do the work, take away the timber and green waste, and leave the garden tidy. Where a tree is protected, we help you check with the council first.

Plenty of jobs are fine with a ladder and a pruning saw, but some are not. A tree that overhangs a house, a garage or a car port, a limb that has split after a storm, or a trunk with dead and dying wood all call for proper climbing kit and a planned approach. Working at height with a running saw is where accidents happen, so it is not worth risking from the garden.
Other reasons are less dramatic. A tree may have outgrown its spot and be casting heavy shade over a lawn, or its branches may be pressing on a fence, a roof or a neighbour's boundary. Thinning, reducing or removing deadwood can often put things right without losing the tree at all, and in a mature garden that is usually the kinder option for the tree and for the look of the place.

We come out, walk round the tree and look at the whole picture: its condition, where the branches are heading, what sits underneath, and how we can get people and equipment in and out. We tell you what we would recommend, which might be a light reduction, a thin, deadwood removal or taking the tree down in sections, and why we think it is the right choice.
On the day, we cut in a controlled order, lowering larger pieces on ropes where there is no clear drop zone, such as above a conservatory or a shed. All the timber and green waste is taken away unless you want logs for the garden, and we rake up and sweep so you are left with a tidy space rather than a pile of sawdust and twigs.

Check whether the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or stands in a conservation area, because cutting without permission can lead to serious trouble. Many older parts of the West Midlands have protected areas, and the local council can tell you quickly. We are happy to talk this through with you and point you towards the right department, so nothing is cut that should not be.
It also helps to think about access, nesting birds and anything overhead. Power lines, narrow side passages on terraced streets and long inter-war back gardens all change how we plan the job, and active nests mean some work has to wait until the birds have finished. Tell us about any neighbours who might be affected, and we will plan around them as well. A quick word beforehand saves surprises on the day.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

Contact your local council's planning or tree officer and give them your address. They can tell you whether a Tree Preservation Order applies to the tree or whether your property sits in a conservation area. Do this before any cutting begins. We can talk you through the process and what to ask for.
Yes. We clear the timber, branches and green waste when we finish and sweep or rake the area so it looks tidy. If you would like some of the wood kept as logs for a stove or fire pit, just tell us and we will leave it neatly stacked.
Yes, that is a big part of tree surgery. We reduce or dismantle trees in sections, lowering pieces on ropes where needed, so nothing drops onto a roof, fence or greenhouse. We look at the position first and explain how we would manage it before starting.
Call us and describe what has happened. If a tree or limb is hanging, split or leaning on a building, keep people well away from it. We will look at the situation, make it safe and then discuss whether it can be saved or needs removing.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
