Edgbaston is known for grand Victorian and Edwardian villas, generous gardens and fine mature trees, many of which are protected. When one of them has died, split, started to lean or become dangerous, felling may be the right answer, but it has to be done properly and with the correct permissions.
We help with that process. We look at the tree, advise what to check with the council, and carry out the removal carefully, clearing the timber and green waste so that your garden is left in good order when we go.

Many streets in Edgbaston fall within conservation areas, and individual trees are often covered by preservation orders. In practice, this means you usually cannot simply cut a tree down. The council may need notice or an application first, and cutting a protected tree without consent can bring serious consequences, so we always suggest speaking to it before booking any work with us.
If a tree is genuinely dead, dying or dangerous, there are usually routes for dealing with it, though you may still have to notify the council. We can describe what we see in the tree so you can explain the situation clearly and accurately. Where felling is not allowed, lighter work such as a crown reduction may be a more suitable option.

The trees in Edgbaston gardens are often substantial: tall limes, old beeches, big conifers and specimen trees planted by the original owners of the villas. Taking one down is a significant job and not one to rush. The crown can be wide and heavy, and there may be glasshouses, summerhouses, boundary walls and fine lawns close underneath it, all needing real protection.
We take these trees down in sections, lowering each piece on ropes and protecting what lies below. Because the gardens are large, there is usually room to stage the work, but access can be limited by gates, long drives or neighbouring properties. We plan the route for equipment and timber in advance, and we explain it to you fully before we start.
When an Edgbaston tree has been felled, we log the timber for you to keep or remove and clear the brash and green waste. The stump can be left low or ground out by arrangement, and you may need to replant if the council asks for it. We also cover Harborne, Selly Oak and Bournville, as well as the city centre.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Possibly not. Much of Edgbaston is a conservation area, and individual trees may also have preservation orders. Contact the council with your address and details of the tree before you arrange any work, and wait for its answer.
You still need to speak to the council, although there are sometimes simpler routes for trees that are dead or an immediate risk. Make the area safe, keep people clear, and tell the council what has happened. We can look at the tree and describe its condition.
Sometimes, yes, particularly where a protected tree is removed. If a replacement is required, the council will say what kind and where it should go. We can remove the stump to make replanting easier if you wish, and tidy the ground.
