Worcester has period houses, riverside streets and suburbs with generous back gardens, so there is often room for a patio that is more than a token slab. We build patios, terraces and paths with a compacted base, paving laid to drain and carefully finished edges, using materials chosen to sit well with the house.
The process starts with a visit and a conversation about how you will use the space. We then agree the layout, dig out, build the base, lay the paving and point the joints. Old surfacing and spoil are taken away.

Streets close to the river in Worcester can have damp ground, and some gardens sit near river meadows where water lies for longer after rain. Before we set a level, we look at where water goes. We remove soft material, build the sub-base in compacted layers and fall the paving away from the house, so the patio dries off quickly instead of sitting wet.
Willows and other riverside trees add to the setting but drop leaves and shade the ground. Under them, a smooth surface can become slippery, so we usually advise textured sandstone-look slabs or dense porcelain with a grippy finish. Neither needs more than regular sweeping and an occasional wash to look good through the seasons. Leaving a narrow gap or border next to the house also lets ground moisture escape.

Period houses in Worcester often have brick walls, sash windows and mature borders, and the patio should look at home beside them. Natural stone or sandstone-look slabs in a quiet tone suit these houses, laid in a simple pattern, perhaps with a contrasting edge course. Porcelain suits a cleaner look. We can lay out samples next to your brickwork so you can compare them properly in daylight and in shade.
If your house is in one of the conservation areas, check whether any rules apply to hard surfacing at the front or to nearby trees. A rear patio usually raises fewer questions, but it is wise to ask the council early. We can explain exactly what we plan to build and where, with the materials and the finished levels, which makes that conversation simple.
With a larger Worcester garden the challenge is shaping the space, not finding it. We often suggest a terrace by the house with a path leading to a second seating spot, so the whole garden is used. Delivery routes and where spoil goes are planned beforehand. We also cover Droitwich, Malvern, Kempsey, Powick and Claines. Tell us what you want to build.

We can improve how it drains. That means removing soft ground, building a compacted base and laying the paving with a fall away from the house. If water collects badly, we look at where it can go before agreeing the design.
A rear patio usually needs little, but rules vary for front areas and for work near trees, so check with the council first. We can describe the plan and materials so your enquiry is clear and specific, and it avoids surprises later on.
Natural stone or sandstone-look slabs in muted tones suit period brick and sash windows. A simple laying pattern looks more at home than a busy one. Samples placed against your walls and windows help you decide before anything is ordered.
