Dudley is hilly country, and its gardens show it. Many slope steeply, some sit on wooded limestone ground, and older terraces often have only a narrow strip of flat space. We build patios, paths and paved areas that make the most of what you have, creating a level, comfortable place to sit and a safe way to get there.
We start with a look at the slope and the soil, then agree a layout with you. Digging, a firm compacted base, careful paving and neat edges follow, along with steps where needed. We take the old surface and spoil away when we finish.

Ground in and around Dudley can be rocky, and in places the limestone sits close to the surface. That affects how deep we can dig and how much shaping is practical. We probe the area first, then adjust the design, perhaps by building up with a retaining edge rather than cutting down, so the patio stays solid without needless effort. We tell you what we find.
On a steep plot we prefer a smaller level patio in the right spot over a large one in the wrong place. Placing it where the garden naturally flattens, close to the back door or a favourite view, saves digging and gives a better result. We can link levels with steps and a short path where the lawn drops away. Each step is cut evenly and edged.

On a slope, a poor base means slow movement, and slow movement means cracked joints. We remove soft ground, lay and compact a sub-base in layers and form a firm edge on the downhill side. The paving is then set with a slight fall for drainage, so rain runs off to a border or lawn rather than towards the house. Joints are pointed afterwards.
Dudley homes range from older terraces to 20th century estates, so materials vary too. Sandstone-look slabs suit many of them, porcelain gives a crisp modern surface and natural stone has a traditional feel. Wooded gardens drop leaves and hold damp, so we explain how each surface copes and how to keep it looking clean. Edges at walls and borders are cut tidily.
Narrow roads and steep drives are common in Dudley, and they affect how we deliver and move materials. We plan the route in advance and carry loads by barrow when needed, taking care of your lawn and borders. We also cover Brierley Hill, Sedgley and Gornal, so tell us your address and what you would like built. Waste is cleared.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Often yes. Limestone near the surface changes how we dig, so we investigate first and may build up with a retaining edge rather than cutting down. We explain the options and what is sensible for your garden before starting.
Usually a smaller one, placed where the ground naturally levels. That means less digging and less retaining work on the slope. We can mark out a few options on the ground so you can see what works before you decide.
Not if it is built on firm ground with a layered, compacted sub-base and a supported downhill edge. These steps stop slow creep and keep the joints tight, so the surface remains level through wet seasons. We explain this in plain terms.
