Cradley Heath is built on a hillside, and its gardens follow the ground, with terraces stepping up behind the houses and lawns that tilt towards the canal and green corridors. We build patios, paths and paved areas that give you a flat, comfortable place to sit, however steeply the garden falls.
A new patio here usually combines a few jobs: shaping the ground, building a support at the edge, and adding steps. We work out the layout with you on site, dig out, lay a compacted base and finish the paving neatly. Waste and spoil leave with us.

Hillside terraces tend to have short, steep gardens, where there may be only a small flat area before the ground rises or drops. Rather than fight the slope, we usually suggest a compact patio set into it, with a low wall or kerb on the uphill side and steps to the next level. That makes use of every metre and keeps the space easy to maintain.
Estates built later in the 20th century have a gentler fall, but the same principles apply. We check how water runs across the garden before deciding where the paving goes and how it is angled, because a patio that sheds water onto a neighbour's wall or back towards your own is a problem waiting to happen. We mark the fall with string lines before digging.

Digging into a hillside is where care shows. We excavate to firm ground, remove soft or loose material and lay a compacted sub-base in layers, so the patio does not settle or creep over time. Edges are formed with a wall or kerb where the ground is cut, giving the new surface a solid boundary that holds the bank back. We check the levels again before the paving goes on.
Then comes the paving. In Cradley Heath, sandstone-look slabs, porcelain and natural stone are all popular, and we explain how they handle damp, moss and frost. Joints are pointed, steps are cut evenly and the finished surface carries a slight fall for drainage. Any old paving or concrete we take out is cleared away with the soil. Each slab is cut to fit around steps and corners.
Some Cradley Heath gardens sit above or beside the canal and green corridors, with steep paths and little vehicle access. We plan how materials will be carried in, and we protect lawns and borders on the way through. We also cover Old Hill, Halesowen and Rowley Regis, so tell us roughly where you are and what you need. We take care in wet weather.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Usually yes. We cut into the slope, support the edge with a wall or kerb and form a level surface, often with steps up or down. We look at the garden first and explain what is realistic before any work begins.
Yes, steps are very common on hillside plots. We cut them evenly, give each tread a slight fall for rain and use the same material as the patio so the two look like one piece of work. Handrails can be added.
We dig down to firm ground and compact the sub-base in layers, rather than building on loose soil. Supporting the edge properly also stops the surface creeping, so the paving stays level in wet weather and over time.
