Small Heath's Victorian terraces and inter-war streets usually come with narrow back gardens, and a well-planned patio can make a small space feel properly usable. We build new patios, paths and paved areas across B10, working to the size and shape of your plot and the way access runs to the back.
Compact does not mean cramped. A neat layout, a durable surface and clean edges can give you a table, a few chairs and room for pots. We will talk through what you need and suggest something that fits comfortably without overwhelming the garden.

In many Small Heath terraces, the only way to the garden is through the house. That is a normal part of the job for us. We lay protection over floors, bring paving, sand and sub-base material in manageable loads, and work in a way that keeps the house clean. Spoil and old paving come out by the same route. We tell you the plan beforehand.
We will agree the access with you before the day, so everyone knows what to expect. Planning the order of work also helps, since we can dig out and carry away first, then bring in the base, then the paving. It keeps the mess contained and means the property is left tidy at the end of each day. Small Heath terraces are quite manageable this way.

A few simple choices make a narrow garden in Small Heath feel wider. Larger paving slabs have fewer joints, which looks calmer. Running the pattern across the width rather than down the length opens the space, and a lighter colour reflects more daylight. We will show you samples and explain the effect of each before you choose. We can lay out a couple of slabs for you to see.
Underneath, the work is the same as for any patio. We dig out, compact a sub-base and lay the paving with a slight fall, so water runs away from the house instead of settling against the wall. The joints are pointed and the edges cut neatly against boundary walls and borders. Old paving and spoil leave with us, and the patio is swept before we go.
With Small Heath Park nearby and street trees along many roads, leaf fall and shade are part of life here. We choose a paving that copes with damp and is easy to sweep. Shared boundaries and neighbouring walls get extra care too. We also cover Sparkhill, Bordesley Green, Tyseley and Alum Rock, so just ask if you are close.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.

Yes, often more so than in a large one. A hard, level seating area gives you somewhere to sit without a muddy lawn. We keep the design simple so the space still feels open and pleasant. We are happy to advise.
We lay floor protection, use clean, manageable loads and keep to a set route through the property. We also sweep up as we go, so the hall and rooms are left tidy at the end of each day.
Larger slabs in a light colour, laid with the pattern running across the width, usually give a good feeling of space. We can lay out samples in your own garden so you can judge them. Samples help a great deal.
