Smethwick's Victorian terraces and inter-war streets tend to have small to medium gardens, and a patio is the quickest way to get more from them. We build new patios, paths and paved areas across B66 and B67, designing around the space you have and making sure the ground beneath is built properly.
Perhaps the lawn never dries out, or the old paving has sunk and cracked. Either way, we look at what is there, explain what needs doing and agree the plan with you before we begin. That keeps the whole job straightforward.

Parts of Smethwick sit near the canal, where trees line the banks and the ground can hold moisture. That affects a patio in two ways. Roots may be nearer the surface than you expect, and damp soil needs a proper base with drainage. We dig carefully, avoid unnecessary root damage and build up a firm, compacted foundation. It is a sensible way to start.
We also lay the paving with a fall so rain runs off instead of lying on the surface. In shaded or damp corners, a textured finish gives better grip and is easier to keep free of algae. If an overhanging tree or hedge is in the way, we can cut it back before the paving goes down. That avoids damage to the new surface later.

With limited space, every choice counts. A patio close to the back door gives an easy transition outside, and a small path can carry on to a shed or a bin store. We often suggest keeping a border or a strip of lawn so the garden does not turn into a slab of paving, which helps with drainage as well. Seeing the options outdoors helps.
Whatever the patio, the work underneath is the same. We dig out, compact a sub-base and set the paving on a firm bed with a slight fall. Joints are pointed and the finish is checked before we leave, so the Smethwick garden is left looking neat. Joints and edges get the same care as the base, since a tidy finish at the wall and the border is what you see every day. Anything we cut or lift is taken away with the old paving.
Many terraces have no side access, so we plan how to bring materials in and carry spoil out through the house, protecting floors as we go. Old paving and rubble leave with us. We also cover Oldbury, Handsworth, Bearwood and West Bromwich, so just ask if your home is in one of those areas. We tidy up properly.

Yes, and it often looks better. A modest patio by the house with a strip of lawn or a planted border beyond keeps the garden soft and helps rainwater soak away. We can mark out options for you.
They can, which is why we dig carefully and avoid cutting larger roots. We may adjust the shape of the patio or the depth of the base. If a root problem looks serious, we will say so. We keep you informed.
Natural stone or a sandstone-look paving usually sits well beside Victorian brick. Porcelain is also popular if you want something very low maintenance. We bring samples so you can compare them against your own walls. Samples help. Ask away.
