Where needed, we plan how runoff reaches the lawn, borders or a suitable drain without causing problems. Doing this properly avoids standing water later. We take no shortcuts.
Because the base is the part that you can't see once we leave, we check levels repeatedly as the work progresses. Joints are pointed properly, edges are cut precisely against walls, steps and planting, and all old material and spoil are removed. Usually yes. We dig carefully near major roots, avoid cutting where possible and shape the patio around them. If a tree needs attention first, we can arrange it before the paving goes down. We always talk through the options first.
Not if it is planned for. We set a fall to carry water away from the house and decide where the runoff should go, whether that is a lawn, a border or a drain, before we begin. That keeps the surface dry and safe.
