Selly Oak has a real mix of homes, from Victorian terraces with small yards to bigger villas with proper gardens, and a patio can transform either. We build new patios, paths and paved areas across B29, working out the right arrangement for the space, then excavating, building up the base and laying the paving carefully.
Landlords, families and owners of student houses all ask us for something durable and low in upkeep. We keep that in mind with every choice, from the material to the way the surface drains, so the finished job is easy to live with.

Rented and shared houses put a patio through plenty of use. Bikes, bins, garden furniture and heavy footfall all take their toll, so durable paving and a firm base are a must. Porcelain is a popular answer because it resists staining and cleans easily, which suits a garden that has to look presentable with minimal effort. We will happily show you samples.
For a family home or a bigger villa, there may be more room to be creative. A patio close to the house, a path across the lawn and a lower seating area can all work together. We talk through how you use the garden and propose a layout that is practical, not fussy. Where a garden is tight, we keep the design simple.

Parts of Selly Oak lie close to the canal and Bournbrook Brook, where the ground can stay damp. A patio built without thought for water ends up slippery and green. We build in a compacted sub-base and a gentle fall, so rain runs away from the paving and the house, and we suggest a textured surface that gives grip. That small detail matters over a wet winter.
We also check how the garden drains before we lay anything. If a low spot collects water, we say so and discuss sensible options, rather than covering it over. Edges are cut cleanly at walls, steps and borders, and the old paving and spoil leave with us once the job is done. Nothing is left for you to clear. You get a clean start.
Mature trees are a feature of Selly Oak, and some streets fall within conservation areas, so it is worth being careful with roots and appearance. We dig sensitively near large trees and choose paving that suits older brickwork. We also cover Bournville, Edgbaston, Harborne and Kings Norton, so please ask if you are close by. We will talk it through.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Porcelain paving is usually the simplest. It resists stains, wipes down easily and does not need sealing. A properly built base means it stays flat, so there is little to fix and nothing for tenants to trip over.
Usually, yes. We carry materials through the house or along the passage in smaller loads, protect the floors and take the spoil out the same way. We will look at the route on our visit and plan around it.
Take care near big trees. We dig by hand close to major roots, avoid cutting where we can and keep the base lighter around them. If a root is important to the tree, we change the patio's shape.
