Plenty of family homes in Castle Bromwich date from between the wars or later, and many still have the patio that came with them: cracked concrete, sunken slabs or crazy paving that has lifted at the edges. We build new patios, paths and paved areas that replace all that with a surface that is level and safe underfoot.
Because the gardens here are often large, there is usually space to do something worthwhile, such as a proper dining terrace or a path to the far end. We plan it with you, build it on a firm base, and take the old material and spoil away.

A worn patio is rarely just a surface problem. In Castle Bromwich, slabs sink because the ground under them was never prepared, and cracks usually mean there was no proper base. So we break the old paving out, remove it and dig down to firm ground, rather than laying new slabs over the top. It takes more effort at the start, but the new patio stays flat.
Old concrete can be heavy and awkward, so we plan how to remove it from the garden without damaging lawns or borders. Rubble, soil and broken slabs go on the lorry, and the ground is levelled before the sub-base goes in. If a drain cover or pipe run sits under the area, we mention it before we build. Nothing is left behind.

Castle Bromwich gardens tend to be generous, with mature conifers and hedges at the boundaries. This helps privacy, but it also means shade, needles and leaf fall landing on the patio. We position the paving to catch as much light as possible, and we suggest surfaces that clean easily, such as porcelain or sandstone-look paving. We explain how each one wears and how often it needs a wash.
A large garden also gives you options: one big terrace, or a smaller sitting area with a path leading on to a lawn or a vegetable bed. We lay all of it with a slight fall for drainage over a compacted sub-base, point the joints neatly and finish the edges where they meet walls, steps and borders. Steps are built to match.
Most of the mess in a patio job comes from the old surface, so we clear it as we go and keep the work area contained. Castle Bromwich homes often have side access, which helps. We also cover Water Orton, Erdington and Sutton Coldfield, so if you live nearby, send us the details and we will arrange a look at your garden.

We do not recommend it. Concrete that is cracked or uneven will keep moving, and new slabs on top will follow. In Castle Bromwich we normally break it out, remove it and build a fresh base so the new patio stays level.
Crazy paving usually lifts because the base underneath is thin or uneven. We take it up, prepare the ground properly and lay a new surface in a material you choose, with a gentle fall so rainwater drains away.
Shade and needle fall can encourage moss, so it is worth choosing a surface that cleans easily. Porcelain is a popular choice, and we explain how sandstone-look paving behaves too. Siting the patio for more light also helps.
