A Sparkhill back garden is often a long, narrow strip behind a Victorian terrace or a bay-fronted house, and the paving is usually the part that works hardest. We build patios, paths and paved areas that give you a flat, tidy place to sit, with a clean line to the back door and a surface that drains properly after rain.
We look at the garden first, agree the size and layout with you, then dig out, build a compacted base and lay the paving with a gentle fall. Edges, pointing and a tidy finish come last, and we take the old surface and spoil away.

Gardens off the Stratford Road tend to be small to medium, so every square metre counts. A patio that fills the whole width can leave no room for planting, while one that is too small never feels useful. We usually mark the outline on the ground with you, so you can stand in it and judge where a table and chairs will sit before any digging starts.
In a Sparkhill terrace garden we often suggest keeping a border along one side, with paving running neatly up to it. Porcelain gives a crisp, even look in a tight space, and sandstone-look slabs soften the edges of brick walls. Either way the joints are pointed and the slabs cut cleanly where they meet walls, steps and the drain cover. Bay windows and projecting walls add awkward corners, and we cut to fit each one.

Many houses in Sparkhill have only a narrow passage down the side, or none at all, and that decides how materials reach the back. We plan this at the start. Sand, stone and slabs are often moved by barrow in manageable loads, with boards laid to protect any path and gateway. It takes careful organising, and we would rather explain it plainly than surprise you on the day.
The same thinking applies to waste. Old crazy paving, broken slabs and excavated soil have to come out the same way, so we clear them as we go rather than letting a heap build up beside your back door. Once the sub-base is compacted and the paving is down, we sweep the area and leave the garden usable, with the gate and side path left clean.
With Sparkhill Park close by, plenty of households here want a patio that is more than just a path, somewhere to sit out on a dry evening or let children play within sight of the kitchen. Tell us how you use the space and what the house looks like from outside, and we will suggest a layout. We also cover Hall Green, Small Heath and Tyseley.

Yes. We plan the delivery route in advance and move materials by barrow in smaller loads, protecting the path and gate as we go. It can take careful organising, but a narrow passage rarely stops a patio being built.
Porcelain gives a clean, modern look and suits compact spaces. Sandstone-look slabs have a softer feel that sits well against older brickwork. We can talk through samples with you and explain how each one weathers before you choose.
We lay the paving with a slight fall away from the building, towards a border, lawn or drain. That keeps water from collecting at the wall. We also keep the finished level below the damp-proof course, so the house stays protected.
