Kings Norton mixes older properties near the village with inter-war homes on the surrounding roads, and the gardens vary just as much. We build patios, paths and paved areas that suit the house they sit beside, from a small sun trap behind a cottage-style home to a wide terrace across the back of a family semi.
Every job begins with a visit, a tape measure and a chat about how you want to use the space. Then we agree the size, the material and the layout before any digging starts. That keeps the whole job clear from the start.

Around the village centre, where there is a conservation area, the look of a garden counts. We lean towards natural-looking paving and simple shapes that sit comfortably beside older brickwork and boundary walls, rather than anything flashy. If your home is close to the conservation area, it is worth checking what applies to you, and we are happy to talk it through. Most Kings Norton gardens we see suit that approach.
Older walls and footings need care. We keep the excavation clear of foundations, set the levels so water drains away from the house, and finish neatly where the paving meets brick or stone. Taking a little longer at the edges is what makes a new patio look as though it has always belonged. Kings Norton homes deserve that care. We would rather do that than rush it.

Gardens close to the canal and low-lying parts of Kings Norton can hold water, and a patio laid without thought for that will stay slippery and green. We look at how the ground behaves, dig to a sensible depth and use a compacted sub-base with a fall so rain moves off the surface and away from the property. It is a small decision that saves a lot of trouble.
Where the soil is heavy, we may build the base up a little more, since a firm foundation matters most in wet conditions. We also suggest a paving with some texture so it grips in winter. Once finished, the old paving and spoil go with us, leaving the lawn and borders tidy. You will also get a clear idea of any upkeep.
Kings Norton has plenty of mature trees, and their roots and fallen leaves affect a patio. We plan around the larger roots, keep the layout open enough for light to reach it, and can trim back overhanging growth first. We also work in Cotteridge, Northfield, Stirchley and Bournville, so ask if your garden is nearby. We will talk it through with you.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Ordinary patios at the back of a house often need no formal permission, but rules vary with the property and what is nearby. Check with the council if you are unsure, and we will happily build to whatever the plan requires.
Not if it is built with the ground in mind. We use a compacted sub-base, set a fall to carry water away and avoid directing runoff at walls. Very wet gardens can need a little extra drainage, which we will point out.
We can get close. We will look at the colour, size and texture of what is already there and suggest paving that sits well beside it. Exact matches are hard with older stone, so we will be honest about what is realistic.
