Edgbaston is known for large Victorian and Edwardian villas with big gardens, and lawns here are often a central feature. We lay turf, renovate tired lawns by scarifying and levelling, repair damaged areas, edge borders and fit artificial grass where it makes sense, always with care for the setting.
Larger gardens with mature planting need careful ground preparation. We clear and level the lawn without harming the trees and borders around it, and we talk through the options so the finished garden suits the house. We are glad to talk through the options before any work starts.

A big lawn in front of a period villa is on show from the road, and every patch, dip and ragged edge is visible. In Edgbaston we aim for an even, clean surface, which means taking time over levels and the joins between turf rolls rather than rushing the laying. A good finish here comes from patience and from rolling and checking levels as we go.
Large lawns also tend to have worn tracks, tired corners and moss where trees overhang. We repair these properly, by lifting weak areas, correcting the ground underneath and relaying turf, instead of applying a quick surface fix that will not hold up once the weather turns. Where only part of a big lawn has failed, we blend the new turf in so that the join is hard to spot.

Many Edgbaston gardens contain mature specimen trees, and a lot of the suburb lies within conservation areas where trees are often protected. That affects lawn work, because digging, levelling and removing turf near trunks can damage roots that the tree depends on. Getting this wrong can be costly for the tree and for the garden, so we treat it seriously and would rather pause and ask than dig first.
We work carefully around roots, keep any soil disturbance light close to trees and flag when a tree could be protected so you can check before anything is done to it. Under dense canopy we may suggest repair rather than a full re-turf, or leave the shadiest area to planting. The aim is a healthy lawn that sits comfortably beneath the trees rather than competing with them.
Sharp, well-kept edges suit formal Edgbaston gardens. We cut crisp lines against borders, gravel and paths and can fit edging for lasting definition. We also work in Harborne and Selly Oak, so tell us where you are, and we can talk through renovation, new turf or artificial grass for your garden. Straight edges also make the mowing neater.

We can, but we take care. Heavy digging near roots can harm a tree, so we keep disturbance light and suggest you check protection status with the council if you are unsure, especially in a conservation area. It is a sensible precaution.
We scarify to clear moss and thatch, level hollows, repair bare patches with fresh turf and re-cut the edges. If large parts have failed, we lift those areas, prepare the ground and relay turf for an even surface.
It can suit a shaded or heavily used corner, such as a side area or a play space. We lay it on a levelled base with edging and weed membrane, and keep real turf where the garden is seen most.
