Selly Oak mixes tightly packed Victorian terraces with larger villas, and the hedges vary just as much. We trim and shape them all, from a short privet at a front gate to a tall laurel screen around a bigger garden, and we take the cuttings with us when the job is done.
Landlords and owners both use us here. A clear plan, tidy work and a clean finish matter whether the house is lived in by a family or let to students, so that is exactly how we work on every visit.

The bigger Victorian villas in Selly Oak often have deep gardens with tall hedges and mature trees. Laurel, holly and yew are all common, and each cuts differently. Laurel can be cut firmly, holly prickles and needs care, and yew should be trimmed with sharp blades into healthy green growth, never into old bare wood that will not recover. We take our time with each type.
These hedges can be very tall, so we plan the access, set up on solid ground and work in sections along the line. If trees overhang the hedge, we cut around them cleanly. Our aim is to leave a screen that still gives privacy but no longer blocks all the light from the house, and that is simple to keep up afterwards.

Selly Oak gardens near the canal and Bournbrook Brook corridors are often damp and shaded, with hedges that grow unevenly towards the light. We trim to even this out, and we take care not to cut into soft, wet ground or damage the planting at the base. Terrace gardens may be narrow, so we plan access and carry cuttings out carefully. It keeps the finish clean.
In a street of terraces, a front hedge makes a noticeable difference to the look of the house. We cut to a clear, flat face, keep the top level and make sure there is no growth over the pavement. Neighbours in Bournville, Edgbaston and Harborne can ask us about the same work for their own hedges too. The result lasts well into the next season.
In rented Selly Oak properties, hedges are often forgotten until they are a problem. A scheduled visit once or twice a year stops them overgrowing, saves a bigger clearance later and keeps the house looking cared for from the road. We clear every cutting and sweep up, so nobody is left with a pile of green waste to deal with.

Yes. Send us the address and tell us how to reach the hedge, and we will agree the work with whoever is arranging it. We tidy up fully, so tenants do not have to deal with any waste.
Holly needs thick gloves and careful, sharp cutting to keep the leaves from tearing. Yew takes a clean trim well but should be cut only into green growth. We use the right approach for each and explain it before we start.
Light, regular trimming can help the plant fill out, and keeping the top narrower than the base lets more light into the lower growth. We will look at it and suggest what to change in how it is cut.
