Selly Oak has plenty of big, handsome trees. Many stand in villa gardens and along the canal and brook corridors, and some have a heavy fringe of low branches that darkens rooms, catches vehicles and tangles with fences. Crown lifting trims that fringe without changing what makes the tree worth keeping.
We take the lowest limbs back with clean cuts, leave the top of the tree alone and work around the access limits that come with older streets and tight terraces. That way the street, the neighbours and the property all come through the work without damage.

Selly Oak's Victorian terraces often have narrow passages and no side access, while the bigger villas have long gardens with substantial trees. Both need thought. In terraces, we may bring branches out through the house or a shared alley, and we cover floors and protect fittings along the way. Cutting plans are shared with you beforehand, so nothing about the route comes as a surprise.
In the larger gardens, the trouble is size. Heavy low limbs can reach across lawns, sheds and neighbouring plots. We plan each cut so the weight is controlled, rope down the larger pieces and leave borders as undisturbed as we can. A good crown lift here leaves the tree looking like it was never touched. Because the tree is balanced afterwards, there is no obvious gap or lopsided look from the road.

Parts of Selly Oak are conservation areas, and some trees are covered by Tree Preservation Orders. Notice or consent from the council is needed before work, so we help you find out what applies before dates are fixed. A plain description of a modest lift is usually easy for the council to understand. That avoids stop-start delays once the work has been booked in for a particular day.
Trees by the canal or Bournbrook Brook add their own checks. Overhanging water means branches must be lowered with care, and the bank may belong to someone else. If you are unsure who owns the land beside the tree, let us know, and we will help you work out who to ask. Wildlife near the water is also considered, so we check for nesting birds before any cutting.
Lots of Selly Oak homes are rented to students, and owners and agents often want a tree dealt with before it causes damage or complaints. We are happy to liaise on access and timing. We also work in Bournville, Edgbaston and Harborne, so if you are nearby but not sure, just ask. It helps to tell us whether tenants will be in, and whether the front or the back garden is involved.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

Yes. Landlords and agents can book the work without being on site. We agree access with the tenants, explain what will be cut and leave the garden clear. We also confirm in advance if council notice is needed.
We use ropes to lower branches, lay sheets over beds and lawns, and carry cut material through the house only if there is no other route. Floors are covered and the route is cleaned afterwards. Afterwards we sweep up and check the route so it is exactly as we found it.
Possibly. Besides any tree protection rules, you need to know who owns the bank and whether the towpath is affected. We look at the site with you and tell you what should be checked before the work starts.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
