Walk around Walsall and you will see how many gardens hold mature trees, from apple and cherry to large sycamores and limes. They give shade and character, but without regular pruning they become heavy, crowded and awkward to live beside. We shape and thin them, take out deadwood and keep them in proportion with the house.
You tell us what the tree is doing to your garden, and we work out the least cutting needed to put it right. That might be a light tidy, or a more substantial reduction, and we explain which before starting.

The housing in Walsall ranges from older terraces to inter-war semis and later estates, and the trees in each tend to behave differently. Terrace trees are usually squeezed into small yards, while semis often have a large front or back tree that has outgrown its welcome. We choose our cuts to suit the plot, not to a standard recipe. Access is checked at the start, so we know how to carry the cut material out.
A good prune opens the crown so light and air get through. It cuts out crossing branches that rub and wound each other, and it keeps the tree's natural outline. That is better for the tree, easier on your gutters and kinder to the neighbours whose fences it hangs over. On a Walsall terrace plot in particular, that tidy outline stops a modest tree from dominating the whole garden.

Mature garden trees carry a lot of weight at the tips of their branches, and in Walsall's windy winters that can lead to split limbs. Removing deadwood and easing the longest branches reduces that risk. We look for cracks at forks, signs of rot and dead tops, and explain anything we find so you can decide what to do about it. We also look at how the branches are loaded, since a lopsided crown is the one most likely to fail.
Pruning little and often is gentler than waiting until the tree is badly overgrown. A tree that is cut back hard after a long gap can react with a rush of weak growth. If yours has been left a while, we will plan the work in stages and tell you how many visits are sensible. You are not committed to anything beyond what we agree together.
Whether you are near the Arboretum or on a quieter estate, access is usually straightforward, and we clear all the cuttings when we leave. Trees in conservation areas or with a preservation order need the council told first, and we can help with that. We also cover Bloxwich, Willenhall and Aldridge. Ask us about your Walsall tree and we will advise honestly.

For many trees winter is a good choice, when they are dormant and the structure is easy to see. Some species and fruit trees prefer other times. We take the species into account and avoid disturbing nesting birds in spring and summer.
Yes. Thinning removes selected branches throughout the crown, letting in more light while keeping the shape. For a big sycamore we may also lift the lower branches. We will explain what that changes before we begin. You can ask us to leave the shape as natural as possible.
A good prune should not leave the tree looking bare. We take out specific branches rather than stripping it evenly, so the outline stays natural. Some trees look thinner for a season before new growth fills in. Pruning rarely strips a tree, and a healthy specimen soon recovers its fullness.
