Walsall covers a wide spread of housing, from terraces near the town centre to inter-war semis and estates further out, and the lawns are as varied as the houses. We turf, renovate, edge and lay artificial grass, adjusting the method to the size, shade and soil of each garden rather than applying one routine to everything.
Maybe your lawn is thin, lumpy or full of moss, or you want to be rid of mowing altogether. Whatever the reason, we start by looking at the ground and drainage, then explain what we would do and why.

Inter-war semis and later estates in Walsall often have a front lawn and a longer back garden, with fences on both sides and a mature tree or two. Over time these lawns pick up dips from old paths, buried rubble and settled soil. A level that looked fine when the house went up can feel quite uneven now, particularly after a wet winter.
We lift the surface, fill and rake the low spots, remove debris and firm the ground before laying turf. On a longer back garden we often work in strips so there is always a route through to the house. It keeps the job organised, and it means you can still reach the garden, the shed and the bins while the work goes on.

Mature garden trees are common across Walsall, and a lawn under or beside one has to put up with shade, dropped leaves and roots near the surface. Grass here may be thin whatever you do. Raising the crown of a tree can bring in more light, and our tree team can talk that through if you want to keep the lawn natural.
Where the tree is staying and the grass still will not cope, we usually suggest a sensible compromise: a shade-tolerant seed mix, a bed or mulch around the trunk, or artificial grass laid on a base that avoids cutting into major roots. We will explain the trade-offs rather than promising a perfect lawn under a canopy that blocks most of the light.
A tired Walsall lawn does not always need replacing. Scarifying removes the layer of thatch and moss, levelling fills hollows, and overseeding or patch turfing fills the gaps. The result is a lawn that grows evenly again and is easier to mow. We also cover Bloxwich, Aldridge and Pelsall, so get in touch if you are nearby and want it looked at.

From our base in Hall Green we work across Birmingham, the Black Country, Solihull and parts of Worcestershire. Choose your area.
Often we can. Small dips can be filled with soil and sand and reseeded, while larger hollows are better handled by lifting the turf, filling beneath it and relaying. Walking the lawn first tells us which approach suits each area.
Sometimes. Lifting a tree's crown can let in more light and help grass recover. We will tell you if that looks worthwhile in your garden, or if a different surface is a better answer than trying to force grass to grow in shade.
The old lawn is removed, the ground is levelled and compacted, and a firm sub-base is laid with a weed membrane over it. Edging holds everything in place. Drainage is checked so rainwater can pass through rather than sit on the surface.
