Family houses in Northfield tend to come with proper gardens, and over time the trees and conifers in them have grown up to meet the roofline. If branches are scraping the gutters, shading the lawn or crowding a boundary, a careful prune can bring things back under control. We offer tree pruning in Northfield for exactly that.
We shape and thin garden trees, ornamental and fruit trees, and reduce overgrown conifers without damaging them. Each job is planned first, carried out with clean cuts, and finished with the garden left clear of branches and sawdust.

A garden is meant to be lived in, and a tree that takes over the lawn or throws shade over the washing line makes that hard. Rather than remove it, we usually lift the lower branches so you can walk and play underneath, then thin the crown to let sunlight reach the grass. In Northfield, where the gardens are often a decent size, that is usually achievable without drastic cutting.
Where a tree reaches out over a shed, garage or neighbouring fence, we shorten those limbs back to a sound side branch, which keeps the tree balanced. Many Northfield gardens are sizeable, so there is generally space for us to work safely, and we put down ground protection if the lawn is soft or the borders are planted up. Doing it this way keeps the tree looking natural, and the lawn gets its light back.

Conifers are common in Northfield gardens, and many have been left to grow for far longer than planned. They can usually be brought down in height and width, but only while there is green growth to cut back to. Brown, bare wood will not shoot again, and we will not pretend otherwise. It is worth deciding early which route suits the garden, since the longer a conifer is left, the fewer choices remain.
If a boundary conifer has already become a tall bare-bottomed screen, we will talk through the choices, which might be a light tidy, a staged reduction or replacement with something better suited. Spring brings nesting birds into the dense foliage, so we check before cutting and plan larger jobs for the colder months where we can. A sensible plan now is better than a bare hedge later.
Give us a call or send a message with a description or photo of the tree. We will visit, walk round the garden with you and agree exactly what is being cut. We also cover Longbridge, Rubery and Kings Norton, so if you live close to Northfield, a visit should be straightforward to fit in. We keep the process simple and clear.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Yes. Crown lifting removes the lowest branches so there is clearance underneath for mowing and for children to play. We take the cuts back to the trunk collar carefully so wounds can heal, and we do not remove too much at once.
It depends on how much green growth is left on it. We can usually take a conifer down by a modest amount, as long as every branch keeps live foliage. We will check the tree and tell you honestly what is possible.
Not always. If we can reach the tree without going through the house and you have agreed the work, we can get on while you are out. We will want a quick word at the start and a walk round at the end.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
