A lot of homes in Kings Heath are Victorian and Edwardian terraces or inter-war semis, and their gardens are rarely huge. That makes one overgrown tree a big problem: it can shade the whole plot, press on a wall or hang over a neighbour. We carry out tree pruning in Kings Heath to bring trees back under control.
Our work covers garden trees, fruit trees and the tall conifers that turn up in many back gardens here. We prune carefully, leave a natural shape and clear everything away, so the tree carries on thriving and the garden feels bigger and lighter.

When a garden is narrow, a tree only a few metres from the house has a big effect. Branches rub on gutters, roots and leaf drop become a nuisance, and light disappears from kitchen windows. Often the answer is not removal but a considered reduction that shortens the crown and thins the density so it stops dominating. In Kings Heath, where many gardens are long and narrow, that balance matters even more.
We choose which limbs to shorten and cut each back to a healthy side branch so the wound can close. Lifting the lowest branches can free up a patio or path. Because space in Kings Heath gardens is limited, we plan where branches will fall and use ropes and careful climbing to avoid damaging fences, sheds or plants. The result is a smaller, lighter tree rather than a stump.

Tall conifers are a feature of many streets near Highbury Park and along the roads off the High Street. They grow quickly, cast heavy shade and cause arguments between neighbours. We can reduce their height and width, but we never cut back into brown wood, because conifers do not regrow from it. Kings Heath streets have plenty of them, and a hurried hedge-style chop only makes the problem look worse.
If a conifer is already bare in the middle, we will explain what trimming will and will not achieve. Where it makes sense we can talk through replacing it with something more suitable for a smaller plot. Timing is worth thinking about too, as we avoid disturbing nesting birds in the warmer months. It is much better to decide on the right approach once than to keep cutting a tree that was never going to suit the space.
Tell us which tree is the problem and we will look at it with you, agree the cuts and carry them out. We also cover Moseley, Hall Green and Cotteridge, so if you are anywhere around Kings Heath, a visit is easy to arrange. Access through narrow side passages is not a problem for us. Tell us the postcode and the tree, and we will do the rest.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.

In most cases yes. Shortening the longest limbs and thinning the crown can make a large tree much more manageable. It will need repeating every so often, but you keep the tree, the habitat and the privacy it gives you.
Look for green foliage on the branches. If the growth you want to remove is green, it can usually be trimmed. If you would be cutting into bare brown wood, it will not recover, so we advise a different approach.
We can, but the cutting should stay within what the law allows and ideally be agreed with your neighbour first. We will look at the situation with you and prune the tree sympathetically so it is not left lopsided.
