Family houses in Northfield tend to come with proper gardens, and proper gardens come with proper hedges. We trim and shape them for homes around the shopping centre and Victoria Common, cutting back height and width, squaring the sides, levelling the tops and clearing up properly once the work is done.
Some customers ask us to sort a one-off problem hedge. Others want the whole garden boundary kept in order through the year. Either is fine, and we will suggest what makes sense once we have seen the hedge.

Inter-war and later houses in Northfield often have a row of conifers planted for privacy that has since grown well past the fence. They block light, press on walls and can make a side passage hard to use. We cut them back to a workable width, taking care not to go into bare wood, which rarely grows back once it has been exposed.
Because these hedges can be very tall, we plan the job around safe access. That might mean working from a platform on the lawn, trimming the sides first and then the top, and collecting the heavy cuttings as we go. We will tell you honestly if a conifer is better replaced than reduced, and we will not push you either way. Either way you get a straight answer.

Front gardens in Northfield are usually bounded by privet, laurel, hawthorn or a mix, and these respond to regular attention. A neat front hedge does a lot for the look of a house, and it is not hard to keep that way once it has been brought back into shape. We cut the face level and the top crisp, tidying the corners by the gate.
At the back, the hedges are often longer and less formal, and we treat them differently. A softer cut suits them, with enough height left for privacy and enough trim to keep them from spreading into the lawn. If you are closer to Longbridge or Rubery, we cover those areas too, so ask if a neighbouring road needs a hedge cut. We tidy the edges as we go.
Hedge cutting makes a mess, and we do not leave it with you. Every clipping is taken away, the path, drive and any hard surfaces in your Northfield garden are swept, and we make sure the bins and gates are as we found them. If birds are nesting, we leave that part and agree when to return for it.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

Often, yes, provided we cut back into green growth and not bare wood. Many conifers will not regrow from old brown stems, so we do not risk it. We look at your Northfield hedge first and say plainly how much can safely come off.
Frequent light trimming works better than occasional heavy cutting. Privet and laurel may need two or three tidy-ups a year in the growing season. We can set up a repeat visit if you would rather not think about it.
We cut your side and the top for certain. For the far face, we may need access through a neighbour's garden. We will explain this first so you can ask them in advance, and we only go onto their side with permission.
Tell us what needs doing and where. We will get back to you to arrange a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. Photos sent on WhatsApp help.
