Family gardens need fences that work every day. Children kick balls against them, dogs lean on them and the weather batters them from every direction. In Northfield we replace tired fencing with new panels or close-board, on posts set firmly in the ground, and add gates where the garden needs one. When we finish, the old fence is gone and the boundary is solid.
We work from Hall Green, close to Northfield, and we also cover Rubery and Longbridge. If your fence is half standing and half propped up, we will tell you what can be saved and what needs to be replaced.

Much of Northfield is inter-war and later housing with sizeable gardens, often with a side gate, a drive and a long rear boundary. These fences have usually done decades of service and are now rotting from the bottom. Gravel boards are a simple fix that protects new panels from damp soil, and we fit them as standard so the timber is not sitting in wet ground. They are easy to replace later if they ever rot, unlike a whole panel.
The shape of the garden decides how we set out the job. Where the fence runs along a slope, we step or follow the ground so it looks neat from both sides. If the boundary meets a garage or outbuilding, we plan the panels and posts to finish cleanly against it rather than leaving awkward gaps that let the wind and the dog through.

Many Northfield gardens have conifers and hedges along the boundary, and they can be hard on a fence. Roots push posts out of line and thick growth keeps the wood permanently damp. A fence in Northfield suffers from this more than most. If your fence has failed beside a conifer line, then putting up new panels without dealing with the trees will only give you the same problem again.
We can cut back or remove the hedge or trees first, then fit the fence on a clear boundary. If you would like to keep some greenery, we can trim it hard and fit the fence a short way off, leaving space for the growth to breathe without leaning on the panels. That suits gardens where the garden is wide enough to give up a little width.
Panel fencing is quick and easy to repair, which suits a busy family garden in Northfield. Close-board suits a back boundary where you want more privacy and a heavier feel. Either option can be finished with a gate to match. Before we start, agree the boundary with your neighbours and check fence height limits with the council, then we will agree the plan with you and get on.

There are limits on height, and they are tighter next to a road or footpath. We would advise you to check with the council before ordering. Once you know the limit, we can recommend panel or close-board and make sure the fence stays within it.
A fence on firmly set posts, with gravel boards and securely fixed panels, will cope with everyday family use. Tell us if the garden takes a lot of knocks or has a determined dog, and we will build and check it with that in mind.
Yes, and it often makes sense. We remove or cut back the hedge along the boundary, clear the line and then fit the new fence, so you only need one visit. The old fence and the cuttings are taken away together.
