Willenhall's terraces and 20th century estates tend to have small to medium gardens, so a lawn that looks tired is hard to ignore. We lay turf, fit artificial grass, bring existing lawns back with scarifying and repairs, and finish with neat edging. The work is planned around the size of your plot, the access and what you want from the space.
Not sure whether to repair or start again? Show us the lawn and we will tell you what we see, including when a repair would not hold and fresh ground preparation is the only sensible route to a lawn you will enjoy.

A quick test helps. Pull at the grass: if it comes up with no roots, or if bare soil, weeds and moss cover most of the surface, patching will not hold and it is better to lift it and start fresh. If the roots are firm and the grass is mostly green, a Willenhall lawn can usually be revived by scarifying, filling hollows and repairing bare areas.
We also look at what is causing the decline, since new turf will fail for the same reason the old lawn did. Typical culprits are compacted soil, poor drainage, shade from fences and buildings, or mowing too short for a long time. Dealing with the cause first is more sensible than laying a second lawn on the same problem and hoping for a different result.

In a smaller Willenhall garden the preparation is what you will see the results of every day. We remove the old surface, take out stones, roots and rubble, and break up any compacted soil. Low spots are filled and high ones cut back, then the whole area is raked and firmed to a smooth, even level before anything is laid on it.
Only then do we lay turf, staggering the joints and trimming to the edges with a sharp blade. For artificial grass the same levelling is followed by a compacted base, weed membrane and edging. On a small plot there is nowhere for a flaw to hide, so we check levels as we go and again before we leave you with the finished lawn.
Edges are what people notice first. In Willenhall we cut crisp lines against paths, patios and borders, repair edges that have crumbled and fit strips where they will keep the lawn in shape through the seasons. We also cover Short Heath, Darlaston and Bilston, so if you are close by and want your lawn outlined properly, we can help.

If the grass lifts easily with little root, or most of the surface is bare, weedy or mossy, replacing is usually better. If the roots hold firm and the lawn is mostly green, scarifying, levelling and patching often brings it back.
Common causes are poor soil preparation, compacted ground that stops roots going down, too little watering while the turf settles, or shade. We look at the base and conditions so a replacement does not fail for the same reason.
Sometimes, though it needs a flat surface with proper drainage and a suitable underlay. We look at the area first. Laying over uneven or non-draining concrete can cause puddles, so we will tell you if the base needs work.
