Ward End has a good deal of inter-war and later housing with medium-sized gardens, and many are close enough to the park to share its mature trees. We turf new lawns, fit artificial grass, renovate worn ones and cut neat edges. Each job begins with a look at the soil, the levels and how much light the lawn actually receives.
If your lawn has lost its shape, grown mossy or gone bare where the family uses it most, we can look at the cause and suggest a plan that fits the garden and how you live in it.

A medium garden in Ward End is often the family space: a spot for the washing, a football goal or somewhere for the dog. That kind of use compacts soil and wears bare patches by the back door and along favourite routes. Turf laid on that tired ground rarely lasts, so the base has to be reworked as part of the job.
We loosen the soil, remove stones and old roots, level out hollows and firm everything before laying turf. For heavily used areas we sometimes suggest a path or hard standing at the busiest point, which protects the lawn and keeps feet out of the mud in wet weather. It is a small change, but it often matters most to how long the lawn lasts.

Streets near Ward End Park have mature park trees close by, and some gardens carry big trees of their own. Shade and leaf fall in autumn are the obvious effects, but roots can also draw moisture from the lawn in summer, leaving thin and patchy grass behind. A lawn here needs a realistic plan for its own light and soil, rather than a standard approach.
We look at where the sun reaches through the day and where the roots are likely to run. In the sunnier parts, good turf or a repaired lawn is realistic. Under the trees, we may use shade-tolerant seed or discuss artificial grass, being careful with any digging near roots so that the trees are not harmed, weakened or left unstable in the wind.
Clean edges give a Ward End lawn a finished look and make mowing quicker. We cut crisp lines along borders, paths and drives, and can fit edging strips where grass keeps wandering into beds and onto paving. We also cover Washwood Heath, Stechford and Alum Rock, so if you live nearby and want your lawn tidied or reshaped, just ask.

Constant footfall compacts the soil and wears the grass away. The fix is to loosen and relevel the ground, relay turf and, if the route is used daily, put in a path or stepping stones so the new grass is not worn through again.
We can, but we will be honest about how well it will do. In deep shade, a shade-tolerant seed mix, a different border or artificial grass may be a better choice. In the lighter parts, ordinary turf can do well on prepared ground.
Yes. Grass and topsoil are removed so the base is firm and does not settle. A compacted sub-base, weed membrane and edging then go in before the artificial grass is laid and brushed, giving a flat finish that drains properly.
