Kings Heath streets are full of trees that were planted for a neat suburban garden and have since grown into the footpath, the neighbours' washing line and the front bedroom window. A crown lift raises the canopy by removing the lowest branches, giving you headroom and daylight back without cutting the tree to a stump.
We carry it out on everything from tall conifers behind terraces to broadleaf garden trees near the Highbury Park side of the suburb, with moderate cuts that the tree can recover from and that leave a neat, natural outline from the street.

In Victorian and Edwardian terraces the back garden is narrow and a single tree can shade most of it. Lifting the crown will not shrink the tree, but it does let low sun slip underneath, which is often enough to make a patio or vegetable bed usable again. Branches are lowered piece by piece to avoid damaging fences, sheds and plants below.
Inter-war semis give more room, though the trees there are often larger. Here a lift tends to be about vehicles and pavements. Overhanging branches that catch high-sided vans or force pedestrians into the road are the most common reason people in Kings Heath call us, and the job is usually straightforward once we can see the tree. We will also advise if street trees belong to the council, since those are not ours to cut.

We start by looking at the whole tree, not just the branches in the way. A good lift follows the natural structure: we pick the lowest limbs, check how thick they are, and make clean cuts back to the trunk or a suitable side branch. Large wounds are avoided where we can, because they are slow to heal and can let decay in.
If the tree is crowded or has crossing growth higher up, we mention it, but we only add extra work if you want it. Our aim is simple: open up what is blocked, keep the tree balanced, and leave you with a tidy garden once all the cuttings and brash have been cleared away and the access is left as we found it.
Send us a few photos or tell us what the branches are touching and which road you are on in Kings Heath. We also work in Moseley, Hall Green and Cotteridge. If your tree might be protected, we can point out what to check with the council before a date is chosen, which saves delays and awkward surprises later.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.
Call, or send photos on WhatsApp, and we will come back to you.

Yes, if the problem is low branches. Lifting raises the underside of the canopy so people and prams can pass freely. Branches that hang out sideways from higher up may need a separate trim, which we can mention when we assess the tree.
Often it is. Raising the canopy lets in sideways light and makes the space under the tree usable. If the tree is simply too large for the plot, we will say honestly whether a reduction or removal would suit better.
Yes. We cut branches into manageable pieces, clear the ground and take the waste away unless you want logs left. In terraces we normally pass material through the house or along an agreed route and leave the access tidy.
