Much of Ward End is made up of inter-war and later houses with medium gardens, and the roads around Ward End Park carry plenty of well-grown trees. Some are in gardens and some sit on the park edge, and their lower branches can crowd fences, shade rear lawns and reach out over paths. Crown lifting in Ward End raises that canopy and opens the space up.
We take a careful approach, removing only the lowest limbs and leaving the tree's overall form alone. That means you get daylight and headroom, and the tree keeps its place as a pleasant feature, instead of being cut back harder than it needs to be.

Gardens in Ward End that back onto open green space often have trees on both sides of the fence. Branches from a park tree can lean in over your lawn, while your own tree may reach out the other way. We only work on trees that are yours or that you have the right to prune, and we are clear about where the boundary lies before any cutting begins.
If a limb overhangs your garden from a tree you do not own, we tell you who to speak to rather than removing it ourselves. For your own trees, we lift the canopy gently, taking low growth off the side that causes trouble. This lets sun through to the border and reduces the damp, mossy shade under the branches. Every cut is kept small.

The medium gardens in Ward End give trees more space than a terrace would, which is why they often grow large before anyone notices. A cherry or birch planted for blossom can reach the upstairs windows, and a larger tree can start to block the lawn entirely. Lifting the crown is a good middle path between doing nothing and a heavy reduction.
We look at how the tree holds its weight, where the heaviest low limbs are, and which cuts will leave the cleanest finish. In many cases only a handful of branches need to come off. We take the time to get those cuts right, because that is what affects how well the tree recovers and looks afterwards. A little patience gives a far better result.
Before work in Ward End we check whether any tree has a preservation order or stands in a conservation area, and tell you if notice is needed. After the lift, we clear the garden and take the waste away. We also cover Washwood Heath, Stechford and Alum Rock, so we can look at neighbouring trees at the same visit.
Based in Hall Green, so we are never far from the gardens we work in.
We look at the job before we price it, so you know what is involved.
Branches, clippings and rubbish from our jobs are cleared and the garden left tidy.

If the tree is yours, yes. We lift the canopy on the side that causes the problem, keeping all the cut material in your garden. If the tree belongs to the park, we will explain who to contact instead of cutting it.
Crown lifting is often enough. By raising the lowest branches, sun reaches the lawn and borders at low angles, while the tree still gives shade overhead. If the canopy is also too dense, we can discuss thinning as a separate step.
Only slightly. The tree keeps its height and general outline, and the main difference is a higher, cleaner trunk with more space under the branches. We aim for natural-looking cuts so it does not look as if it has been trimmed heavily.
