Redditch was planned as a new town, and many of its estates were laid out with hedges, planted trees and open green space around the homes. Those same features give ivy plenty to climb. We remove ivy from fences, house walls, outbuildings, hedges and trees across B97 and B98, one section at a time.
Because the planting here is often shared or runs along the road, we begin by finding out whose ivy it is. Growth on your own fence or house wall is straightforward. Ivy on a hedge you share, or on a tree beside the pavement, may need a word with a neighbour or the council first.

Estate fences and front hedges in Redditch face the road, so ivy shows up quickly there, on a close-boarded panel or along a hedge top. Even a small patch can lift boards and thicken a hedge. We cut the stems at ground level, wait for the growth to die back and take the dead ivy off panel by panel or branch by branch. Nothing is yanked off green.
Hedges need judgement. A privet or mixed hedge can be smothered by ivy and look healthy from the road while the inside has gone thin. After the ivy is cut and removed we leave the hedge as we found it, with no trimming unless asked, so you can see what is left and decide on a trim or a replant. Hedge trimming is a separate service we also offer.

Redditch has plenty of mature planted trees beside roads, paths and gardens. Ivy that reaches into the crown competes for light and adds weight in wind, so we cut the climbing stems at the base and remove what is in reach. Trees on public or council land are not ours to touch, so if the tree is not in your garden, check who looks after it first.
On your own trees the approach is slow and careful. We cut a ring at the base, remove the lower stems and leave the upper growth to die back before it drops. That way the bark is not stripped and no branch is dragged down. We look for nests beforehand and stop if one is active. With open green space like Arrow Valley Park nearby, birds are never far away.
When the work is finished we collect every bag of cut ivy and take it away, leaving the fence, wall or hedge clear for you to inspect. Redditch estates tend to have tidy front gardens, so we sweep the area where we have worked. We also cover Bromsgrove, Alvechurch and Studley if a relative or friend nearby needs the same help.

That depends on who owns the boundary, which your property deeds may show. We only work on what is yours, or what the owner has agreed to. If it is a shared boundary, a quick conversation with your neighbour first usually avoids disagreements later. We can talk it through.
In most cases, yes, provided the timber is sound. We cut the ivy at the base, let it die back, then lift it away gently from the boards and posts. Fence timber that is already rotting may not survive the process, and we will say so as we go.
A heavy covering can, by adding weight, cutting light from the leaves and hiding problems in the trunk. A tree outside your boundary is normally the council's or a landlord's responsibility, so contact them. For trees inside your garden we can remove the ivy from the lower trunk and base.
