Hedges in Acocks Green have a habit of getting away from people. Many of the inter-war semis and terraces here have sizeable back gardens, and the conifers and boundary hedges planted long ago now stand well above head height. We trim hedges of every kind in Acocks Green, from a tidy side-and-top cut on a front privet to a proper height reduction on a tall back boundary.
You might want a one-off cut before a family weekend, or regular visits each season so the hedge never gets out of hand again. Either works for us. We cut neatly, take the clippings away with us and sweep the path and patio before we leave, so the garden looks better than when we arrived.

A lot of Acocks Green gardens are long and narrow, which often means a hedge runs the whole length of the plot on both sides. Left alone, a conifer hedge adds growth every season and slowly takes light and width from the lawn. We work along the line from a stable ladder or platform, cut the sides straight, level the top and keep the face even so it grows back thick rather than patchy.
Leylandii and other conifers need a little care, because cutting back into bare brown wood will not always regrow. We tell you honestly how far a hedge can be taken down in one go. Sometimes the answer is a staged reduction over two visits, which keeps the hedge healthy and avoids a harsh gap that takes a long time to fill in again.

Not every hedge in Acocks Green is a conifer. Front gardens near the Warwick Road corridor often have privet or laurel, and some older plots have mixed or beech boundaries. Each one cuts differently. Privet likes frequent light trims, laurel looks far better cut stem by stem so the big leaves are not shredded, and beech keeps its shape with a tidy trim.
We match the tool to the plant. Powered shears give a clean, flat finish on dense hedging, while hand tools are kinder to broad-leaved species. If a hedge has become overgrown, we can restore it by cutting back harder at the right time of year, then shaping it on later visits. Whatever the size, we agree what you want first, so the finished hedge matches what you had in mind.
Between spring and late summer, birds nest in hedges and it is an offence to disturb an active nest. If we spot one, we leave that section alone and come back once the birds have gone. Outside that period there is plenty of scope for cutting. Once your Acocks Green hedge is back in shape, we can set up regular visits so it stays that way. We also cover nearby Hall Green and Yardley.

It depends on the hedge. Leylandii will not regrow from old bare wood, so we trim back into green growth only. If a hedge is very tall, we may reduce it in stages across more than one visit. We look at it with you first and explain what is realistic before cutting.
Yes. We clear the clippings as we go, load them into our vehicle and take them away, then sweep the path, driveway or patio. If you would rather keep some for composting or mulch, just tell us on the day and we will leave a neat pile where you want it.
Often yes, but we check carefully for nests first. Birds are protected while nesting, so any section with an active nest is left until the young have flown. Many hedges can still be cut safely on the other side. If not, we will suggest a sensible time to return.
