Not every tree job is a big one. This Kidderminster project was a small, spreading ornamental tree with fine, reddish branches, growing out of a bed of purple slate chippings against the back fence. Two photos show it in place, with one of our team standing beside it, and a third shows the same corner once it had gone.

Before and after in the same corner

The standing tree has a short, twisted trunk and a domed crown of thin twigs, with a fern, a stone ornament and a paved patch beside it. In the final photo the border is clear, with only a small low stump and a little sawdust left by the fence. The lawn shows a few worn patches, so it is clear where the work took place.

Planning a small removal

A small tree is quick to take down compared with a big conifer, but the same questions apply. Check whether it is protected, make sure no birds are nesting, and think about the fence and neighbouring plants close by. Branches, logs and waste should all be taken away, and the stump can be left low or ground out afterwards if the space is wanted for something else.
